Nickel Wire Mesh Outstanding Corrosion Resistance In Brine Sulfuric Acid Hydrofluoric Acid
Nickel Woven Wire Mesh Introduction:
Nickel wire mesh is woven from pure nickel (Ni 200/201) or nickel alloys (e.g., Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy). The manufacturing process includes:
Wire Drawing: Nickel rods are drawn into fine wires (0.025 mm – 2.0 mm diameter).
Weaving: Wires are woven into plain, twill, or Dutch weave patterns.
Heat Treatment: Annealing may be applied to improve ductility and reduce brittleness.
Plain Weave – Most common and cost-effective
Twill Weave – For higher strength and density
Dutch Weave – Ideal for fine filtration and pressure resistance
Material:
Pure Nickel Series: Nickel 200 (EN 2.4060), Nickel 201 (EN 2.4061), Nickel 270 (EN 2.4050)
Nickel Alloy Series: Cr20Ni80 (EN 2.4869)
Table 1: Nickel 200 Wire Mesh Chemical Composition (%) | ||||||

Nickel 200 and 201 are considered as commercially pure. With 99.6% grade, the low carbon content of 201 prevents the metal alloy from becoming brittle when exposed to temperatures 600F and above. The Nickel 270 is considered as high purity grade metal alloy, produced through powder metallurgy.
Ni 200 (99.6% Ni) – Standard grade for general use.
Ni 201 (99.9% Ni) – Low carbon, better for high-temperature welding.
Nickel Alloy Mesh:
Inconel (Ni-Cr) – Extreme heat/corrosion resistance.
Monel (Ni-Cu) – Superior marine/chemical resistance.
Hastelloy (Ni-Mo-Cr) – Best for harsh acids.
Features:
High Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to alkalis, acids, and saltwater (better than stainless steel in some environments).
Heat Resistance: Maintains strength at high temperatures (up to 1000°F / 538°C for Ni 200, higher for alloys).
Electrical Conductivity: Moderate conductivity, useful for battery and fuel cell applications.
Non-Magnetic (Ni 201): Ideal for electronic shielding where magnetic interference is a concern.
Ductility & Formability: Easier to shape than Monel or Inconel.
Oxidation Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer at high temperatures.
Applications:
Chemical Processing: Filters, screens, and gaskets in corrosive environments.
Battery & Fuel Cells: Electrode support meshes in NiMH and alkaline batteries.
Aerospace & Defense: Heat shields, exhaust filters, and sensor protection.
Electronics: EMI/RFI shielding, conductive gaskets.
Pharmaceutical & Food: Non-reactive sieves and filters.
Nuclear Industry: Radiation-resistant components.
Decorative Use: Architectural accents due to its metallic luster.
